Welcome to Larry’s Lodge!! Here at Larry’s Lodge, we strive to provide the best days on the water because we believe guiding/fishing is the best soul food around. Nothing makes our day like allowing an angler to further their understanding of what is so amazing about the sport. At Larry’s Lodge, we strive to create a community among anglers. Asking people in our community why they guide or fish is like asking most why they breathe or sleep, so we did our best to put some of these things into words. It seems the consensus is that we guide to spend time outdoors, allowing trout to be our window into the ecosystem and a tool to help people take a deep breath from the daily hustle. All of us have seen countless people take what seems to be the first deep breath they have had in many years on the trout stream, and that is why we do this, that is what we do this for as for why you should book a trip with us, each one of our guides makes your metric of success on the water their personal mission too.

The Soque River Fly Fishing hangout (Beginner Friendly)

Ready to learn or teach your kids fly fishing without feeling overwhelmed? Join us for a Fly Fishing 101 learning event and hangout designed for first-timers and youth anglers.

This is a relaxed, supportive environment with components both on and off the water experience, where questions are encouraged, and progress is the goal. We’ll spend most of the session fishing while you build real skills you can take to any trout stream.

What to expect

3 hours (on the water)
Beginner-focused instruction + guided practice
Casting coaching, rig setup, and fishing fundamentals
Great for individuals, couples, and families (kids welcome if accompanied)

What to bring
Waders/boots if you have them, weather-appropriate layers, sunglasses, water, lunch, the appropriate fishing licenses and a good attitude. If you need gear, reach out—we can help.

Location

We are in Batesville GA at the base of Trey Mountain located 30 min from Clayton, 25 min Clarksville, and 20 min from Hellen. For our North Carolina people, we are 1 hour from Franklin NC, 1 hour and 15 minutes from Highlands NC, 1.5 hours from Cashiers NC, 3.5 hours from Charlotte, and 1 hour from Hayesville NC. As for landmarks, we are located 4.5 miles from Lake Burton Dam, 0.5 miles from the Batesville General Store, 9.2 miles from Unicoi State Park and Lodge, and 11 miles from the Hardman Farm State Historic Site. For anglers traveling from afar, we are roughly 1.5 hours (depending heavily on traffic) from the Atlanta Hartsfield (ATL), 3.5 hours from Charlotte Douglas (CLT), 2 hours from Asheville Regional (AVL), and 2 hours from Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP).
